Willem II is collaborating with NAC Breda and the KNVB to investigate the alleged racism towards Willem II forward Jeremy Bokila last Sunday.
The Tilburg-based club is determined to take necessary steps in response to the incident.
"At Willem II, we believe in the power of friendship, both on and off the field," stated the Eredivisionist in a released statement. The incident involving Jeremy Bokila, both on the field and online, emphasizes the importance of standing together against racism.
The Brabantse derby ended in a 2-2 draw after a turbulent final phase. Players from both teams clashed after the game, with Bokila expressing anger. He later revealed to ESPN that he was subjected to racist remarks by a NAC player.
"I am not someone who gets angry easily," said Bokila. "I usually brush things off, but I have boundaries. There are certain things I cannot accept, especially not from someone I do not know."
NAC issued a statement on Sunday denying the allegations of racism towards Bokila, attributing the incident to a misunderstanding. The Breda club mentioned the name of Matthew Garbett in their response.
"We want to make it clear that NAC condemns all forms of racism. Garbett does not recognize the accusation made by the player. According to him, the accusation is based on a misperception, as supported by various eyewitness accounts," NAC stated.
